Xabier Etxeberria Garro

Zarautz (Gipuzkoa), 1974.

He did Business Studies in Donostia (San Sebastian). He worked for a machine-tool company located in Lasarte-Oria (Gipuzkoa). He spent half a year in Korea learning the language and culture of the country thanks to a European Union grant. He has started running the Aurten Bai Foundation. He is also an entrepreneur: he has a small clothes shop in the main square of Zarautz.

In collaboration with his brother, he has contributed to the Goizean behin series on Euskadi Irratia (the Basque language radio station of the EITB, the Basque Autonomous Community broadcasting corporation) and has also been involved in writing the dialogues for the EITB's soap Goenkale. He is also a member of the Bertso (extempore Basque verse) school in Zarautz.

When he was at High School he and his brother won a prize between them. After that he began scribbling down on paper everything that came into his head.

He won the "Imajina ezazu Euskadi" award in 1997. That very summer they contracted him to tell stories on Euskadi Irratia. He went on to win two more awards: the Erotic Story Award of Basauri (Bizkaia) and the Igartza scholarship.

This latest award was the most important, because it enabled him to have his first novel published. Since then he has won a couple more awards: for a children's story written in collaboration with his brother he won the Lizardi Award, and the Basarri Award for written verses.

He has recently won the 10th edition of Erotic Story Award organised by the Euskarabila Association of Basauri (Bizkaia) for his short story Breaking The Wall.
