Jon Arretxe Perez

Basauri (Bizkaia), 1963

He has a degree in Physical Education and a PhD in Basque Philology.

He has also completed the full course of piano studies.

He was a teacher of Basque at the Euskal Irakaslegoa of the University of Deusto and lectured in Physical Education at the Teacher Training College in Gasteiz (Vitoria), which belongs to the EHU (University of the Basque Country).

He has travelled widely all over the world. His first book was published in 1991 under the title Hakuna matata. Later on he had some research on the Basque of Basauri (Bizkaia) published by the town's municipal council.

He has produced mainly novels, travel accounts and short stories: Tubabu chronicle of a journey (Elkarlanean, 1994); Urrezko triangelua (novel,1995); Tuparen seme-alabak (travel, 1996); Harresi handirantz (Zubia-Alfaguara, 1997); Ostegunak (stories, Elkarlanean, 1997); Oroituz (Elkarlanean, 1998); Ostiralak (Elkarlanean, 1999, stories); Zazpi kolore (Elkarlanean, 2000, stories); and Lurraren taupadak (Publ. Alfaguara-Zubia, 2001).

His latest travel novel, Griot (Elkar), was published last year.
