Edu Zabala Garagartza

Eibar (Gipuzkoa), 1958

He studied agricultural engineering in Seville and since 1983 has been a teacher of Basque and natural sciences. Today he teaches Basque at secondary school level at the "Txingudi" Ikastola (Basque-medium school) in Irun (Gipuzkoa). He has had many articles and papers published in the Elhuyar and Plazara magazines. In 1988 his short story Metro sutan won him first prize in the short story competition organised by the Plazara magazine.

He has had three books published: Inauterietan (2004), in which the Basque Country's most famous carnival celebrations are woven into short stories; Ezka (2004), a historical novel set in Navarre in 1407 about the way of life of the people who engaged in log rafting; and his latest, Onddoak, ondo? (2005), which is a parody of the people who go out gathering edible fungi.
