Aingeru Epaltza Ruiz de Alda

Iruñea (Pamplona), 1960

He is a graduate in journalism. He worked for the newspapers Deia and Navarra Hoy and the Basque Autonomous Community broadcasting corporation Euskal Telebista before working as a translator for the Government of Navarre, which is his current occupation.

In 1990 he was appointed chairman of the Federation of Ikastolas (Basque-medium schools) of Navarre. He was also made a representative of the Basque Language Council of Navarre; he resigned in 1999, because he disagreed with the Basque language policy of the Government of Navarre.

His creative work centres mostly on the narrative. But he has also written drama: for example, in 1984 he wrote the play Mugetan Irri for the Ortzadar group.

In 1985 he won the literary competition for New Writers organised by the City Council of Iruñea (Pamplona) for his novel Sasiak ere begiak baditik, set during the time of the Carlist wars.

He went on to win the Xalbador Prize for his novel Ur uherrak, and in 1997 his short novel Tigre ehizan won him the Euskadi Saria. He was awarded the Rikardo Arregi Prize for Journalism in 1990.
